GETTING INTO DATING AGAIN...

Each of us has a starting place as we seek productive relationships with
the opposite sex.
Perhaps we are seeking relief from loneliness,
playing the field looking for Prince Charming or Cinderella... seeking our individual identity or. looking for ways to grow... trying to
discern our life role.. . seeking community and friendship.... seeking agreement
and support... backing out of an unproductive relationship.
Whatever our starting place, we will eventually arrive at a limited number of destinations in our sexual relationships... We may become
traveling companions, enjoying similar recreations or experiences without deep commitment. . . we may find physical pleasure without a
more complete understanding... . we may develop a mutual dependency, supporting one another's weaknesses without exploring strengths.., we
may develop a lasting friendship with minimal sexual intimacy. . . we may evolve a partnership, sharing a business or
a vocational task... or
we may remain lonely and unfulfilled.
Underneath all this seeking and exploring has always been the assumption that a man and a woman can find mutual growth, true
mutual bonding and supportive love... But there seem to be great hazards
and barriers in the way.
Even so, we usually go about the process of meeting and sharing experiences with the opposite sex in a random,
self-conscious way... mainly unaware of ourselves, our needs, our hopes
and expectations, and almost certainly unaware of effective ways in which we can build honest, straightforward and successful relationships.
The maze of sexual relationships is an
especially difficult game to play. Hollywood, Mother and Father, our religious background, teenage
fears and mis-information, and so many other factors have been recorded in our experience which distort our natural feelings toward members of
the opposite sex, not to mention the ingrained, cultural taboos and unspeakables which surround sexual encounters.
DATING again 101 is a set of experiences
designed to get men and women in touch with their individual selves and to provide some insight
into productive ways in which they can begin to build successful relationships.
